I planned my meals out for the month but thought I would still highlight each week. I think this is where I will add pictures as I go through my meals. Without further ado, please welcome:
Monday: Crazy, Nummy Nachos
Tuesday: Dinner with extended Family
Wednesday: Chicken, Brocolli & Cheese Casserole, Pears, Garlic Toast
Thursday: Lemon Pepper Fish, Carrots & Peas, Rice
Friday: Pizza (using this crust) (I also brush some olive oil and garlic on the crust before baking)
Saturday and Sunday: Leftovers/wing’in it
This week is not the best planned out but it is something.
I think I might make a Chicken, Potato & Vegetable Bake on Saturday or Sunday. (Isn’t a potato a vegetable??) At any rate, that looks quick, simple and good!
Check Orgjunkie.com for 100′s of other meal plans! She hosts MPM (Meal Plan Monday) every week with a ton of other Moms/blogs submitting their weekly meal plans. I am almost always up for inspiration!

Miss M (4) was on the phone to my sister who called to ask her what she would like for Christmas. I haven’t really asked her but she had previously seen an Easy Bake Oven and REALLY wanted it. Well, when her Aunty asked her what she wanted, Miss M replied “one of those cooking things”. My sister joked around about it being a silly present or something and Miss M fired back. Then her Aunty asked her what else she wanted, to which Miss M replied, “a book to read to my Mommy”.
Awwwwwwwwww… my heart melted
So.Stinking. Adorable.
Thank you Sissy

LIl’ Miss M chose to read Garfield’s Night Before Christmas by Jim Davis (Poem by Clement C. Moore) this evening.
Short and sweet. She giggled throughout though she didn’t ask me to read it again, so I can’t say it was a favorite.

Here is my first real monthly plan! I posted yesterday about trying this out and had to tackle it. I think I made it more difficult than it should have been so it took me awhile, but I think next month will be much easier. I just wrote the ingredients for each meal so that I could have a grocery list too. I was looking up prices so I could come up with an estimate but then just decided away with that. I only made this for dinners but I know that I will be able to utilize some of the ingredients/ left-overs to make lunches on many days as well. I did not plan for the weekends because we have super busy weekends most weekends and I have enough food on stock to throw something together this month. I am super excited to try the easy-looking to make pizza crust. I hope it is good!
Maybe I should post pictures too, because you know you are soooooo interested in what my meals look like….:)
Thank you again Alicia ~ I think you just made my life way easier

I have to admit..I’m worried! I am a list maker like a crazy woman. Meal planner maker? Not so much. I have planned ahead for a week at a time before but got off track doing that. I was browsing blogs and found this site. I have read other blogs where they have planned ahead but I LOVED how she put it into a calendar-like format like she did. I loved it so much, I decided I wanted to try to plan out my month as well. I think I must be a visual learner because seeing that made me feel like I could manage this. I am also going to make a list of ingredients and recipes and then I will print it off for reference. I will update with my meal plan. Thank you Alicia
Wish me luck!

If you have read my page for awhile, you might know that I am always on the look out for ways to help my kids academically. I also look for deals. When your child needs extra help that you are unable to provide yourself, you scrape together what you have (or just break out the wallet) and usually end up having to pay someone. Tutor.com charges around (not exactly) $40/hr (which goes down somewhat as you commit to more hours) for online tutoring. There are other online options as well. Face to face tutoring is also pretty spendy depending on where you live. Even if you find someone who is willing to tutor for pretty cheap, it still adds up. Of course our children are “worth” it as some would put it, but if there is another option out there, why wouldn’t you at least consider it?
You might worry about how your child would learn online. Many of the online programs out there do offer one to one tuturing for your child (or you). It is definitely worth a shot as you never know if the face to face person will click with your child or not either. A definite plus is that a lot of people are more willing to speak up and ask the questions that they have on the computer where as they might be a bit more shy or feel silly in person.
Ok, on to the free option I have found. This might not be available for everyone but I know that many people don’t even think to look. Go to your local library or on to your library website! In our county, the library system offers online and in-person tutoring through Tutor.com and Brainfuse, as well as has volunteer tutors. I was concerned that because it was free that the quality would be less than stellar. Well, our tax dollars pay for these services, so I say utilize them. Miss C did get a tutor that was not the best at explaining her math to her, so she politely excused herself and logged onto another persons service. Not everyone learns or teaches the same way. In our county you would go to the library website, look under research options/homework help and you would find the information you are looking for. There are many other options available through our county that you might want to check to see if they are offered through yours. Ours offers an online e-book reading option for kids (and adults too I think, though I haven’t checked that out yet), free finger puppets rhymes and songs, interactive learning options online and more. If you were to go to each of these sites individually you would pay an arm and a leg for their programs, but if you get a library card, you may be able to access that way instead. How awesome would it be to find out that your local library offers free tutoring!
So to reiterate: LIBRARY LIBRARY LIBRARY!

How many clothes does a 4 year old need? How about none! Not any “real” ones anyways…at least not in our home!
Ok, I am exaggerating a little.
Seriously though, Miss M wears dress up clothes almost daily. She will either put her outfit on for the day and within the hour have a dress up outfit on OR she will just immediately put her dress-up clothes on! Why buy “real” clothes?
In all honesty, I do think her choices are rather adorable. She does have other forms of dress-up attire such as cover-alls (construction worker), fireman, cheerleader, and more but she almost always chooses the “princess-y” articles. Sometimes she just pairs them with snowboots, or some other not usually paired item.
Are your children (child) like this? Do you allow your kids to wear their dress-up clothes in public? Why or why not? I have known parents that were strongly against it, some just mildly annoyed by it and others who really didn’t mind. I’d love to know where you stand!

I am always on the lookout for fun, educational things to do with my kids, or to let them do on their own. I LOVED to read as a child (still do). Miss C (13) is NOT a reader. She doesn’t mind if I read to her but she does not like to read at all. Miss M (4) loves having books read to her.
About a month ago, Miss M came to me and asked me to teach her to read. “Mommmmmmy, will you teach me to read like you? I want to read the words on the pages!” Well, I read to her all the time but I didn’t want to mess with her learning process on reading by trying to teach her the wrong way. I used a program with my older daughter and it worked ok but I couldn’t remember the name of it. We bought Hooked on Phonics for Miss M.
Miss M is a stubborn one. She is funny. Last year I had her tested because I worked with her often and yet she didn’t know her colors, her shapes, etc. I was concerned. She went to my Moms’ house for a week and my Mom told me that she didn’t know what my issue was but Miss M. does know all of her colors, shapes etc. When she got home, we played some games and low and behold, she didn’t know but maybe 2 colors. I had her tested just in case. She was totally messing with me! She knew all of her stuff and then some at testing. They said she was ahead. The only thing she wouldn’t do for them was her gross motor skills assessment. Then there was her speech. They ended up referring her out for her speech because the lady couldn’t hear her in the room of other preschoolers and thought that she might have an articulation problem. On to the specialist for that. He was blown away by her vocabulary. He said she was at the same level as alot of his 8 year olds (this was at age 3). She could work on her Rs and her hard C sounds but nothing that would need services.
What does all of that have to do with reading, you might be wondering? Weeellll, fast forward to now: We bought the Hooked on Phonics System. When I went to use the flash cards with her for her alphabet, she could only tell me a few letters. No sounds. What in the world? It didn’t seem like she was messing with me again, but how could I be sure? I have to say that as much as I work with her, I was focussing on other areas and just saying our ABCs and pointing out letters on signs and what not. We didn’t really get into the ABCs as much because she just was not interested in it and I figured I would have awhile. Well, her not knowing any sounds or barely recognizing her letters really concerned me. I don’t know if she really did know them all and was playing around (but this was continuous too so who knows?) but I have a few recommendations for what we have been doing that works for us. We shelved Hooked on Phonics for now, except for the alphabet rings that come with the set and the ABC tape. She will listen and dance to the tape as I show her the cards. We do that a couple of times a week.
Playing the Hooked on Phonics game (She was rather bored with this. Being the silly kiddo she is, she miraculously picked all of the wrong answers EVERYTIME and when I asked her if she was doing it on purpose, she said “well ya Mommy..how else am I suppose to keep the one that is the right one?” hmmm)

One BIG SURPRISE for me was the Leapfrog Letter Factory. She will watch that over and over again. I let her watch it quite a bit and limit other movies to a minimum or not anything at all daily. She now readily tells me her letters and many of her sounds. I prompted her with some too. For instance I would ask, “What is this letter?” (“H”) “What does the letter H say?” (shrugs shoulders) “Remember when H got really hot in the movie? What did letter H say?” (“oh HHHHHH”) “So what does the letter H say?” (“HHHHH”)
She is getting there and whether or not she knew the letters and sounds before, I can tell she feels a lot more confident telling me them now. She just started using Time4learning.com and likes that too. I like that it helps reinforce what she is learning. I will go more into that later.
We read atleast one book a day but most days she brings me many more. We also “read” animated ebooks as well. She likes those and I like how the words are highlighted as the story is read.
She does projects here and there working with letters. For example, she made a big letter ‘A’ and glued Fruit Loops to it to make a “FRUITY A”. Simple but she loved it!

Mya also loves to write and now incorporates pretty much all of the letters of the alphabet in her writing. She writes a lot of “words” that are just a bunch of letters thrown together at the moment, but she also knows how to write many words on her own. She doesn’t know how to sound those ones out or anything. She just remembers from what I have shown her. She has written her name (only a few letters) since she was 3. She can write MOM, DADand HI. I know I am missing a few.
I just decided to “wing it” today. I opened up notepad and made the font ’48′ and typed A. I asked her what that letter was and what sound it makes. She told me. I the typed the letter T on the other side of the page. I asked her what letter that was (I had to remind her) and what the sound was. She told me. Then I had her sound them out a couple of times, she readily did. Then I moved the letters closer together on the screen and had her do it again. I then put the letters together and had her sound them out again. Then I told her to say it faster. She did and then I just said, “M.. what does that word say? Read it to me
” She did…”AT!” She was so excited to read! Then she read HAT and PAT.
We have awhile to go but how exciting to see the progress! I will keep you posted. I know long and boring to others probably but so neat to us!
